This custom residential pool and garden design exemplifies the effectiveness of sound Xeriscape principles. The owners desired a low maintenance Xeriscape garden that blended their Greek heritage with modern California landscape design. The residence is located on a picturesque site riddled with granite bedrock outcroppings. Pool, spa, waterfalls, rocky stream, sand blasted colored concrete patios and poured in place battered concrete walls and wood trellises were incorporated into the dramatic terrain. Functional use areas were created with entertainment in mind. Pictured is the owner’s annual Greek Easter celebration.
This project was featured in the publication, "Xeriscape San Diego Style". The Wiley Group received an Honor Award from the San Diego Chapter of ASLA for this custom residential project.

The design vision was to create an invigorating entry focal point with a unique water feature. The meticulous attention we paid to detail is evident in this front entry waterscape. 1" square slots of cobalt blue tiles project fingers of water which appear to jump off each step with increasing velocity. The water moves downward like the movement of an escalator and concludes in an inverted fountain. Column like matching equally distant Windmill Palms frame the fountain and create an exciting outdoor room and entry plaza. Warm and cool tones of the buff and gray colored paving tiles accent the cobalt blue fountain tiles which makes the water sparkle and come alive. Slate gray tiles were placed in the reveal of the steps giving depth to each step. Not visible in these slides is fiber optic lighting placed in the reveal of each step and underlining the steps of the fountain. A hedge and hidden fence enclose the area, makes it inaccessible to passersby, and creates an ideal private spot for welcoming guests and prelude to entertaining. This project was the winner of the San Diego ASLA Landscape Detail Award.
